Engines for machinery – petrol and diesel

A replacement engine is the cheapest way to get a sound machine working again when only the power unit has failed: a two-wheel tractor, tiller, plate compactor, wood chipper, water pump or generator. This section has two groups: petrol engines from Loncin, WEIMA and Grünwelt rated 3.6 to 35 HP, and diesel engines from WEIMA and Grünwelt rated 6 to 15 HP. Engine spare parts such as pulleys are listed separately.

How to match an engine to your machine

Power matters, but it does not decide whether the new engine will fit where the old one was. Before ordering, check the old engine for:

  • Shaft orientation. Most farm and construction machines use a horizontal shaft. Vertical-shaft engines include the Loncin LC1P65FE, LC1P70FA, LC1P75F, LC1P92F-1, LC2P77F, LC2P82FD and the Grünwelt GW-1P70FA.
  • Shaft diameter and type. The range covers 19.05, 20, 22.2, 25, 25.4 and 36.5 mm shafts, either plain with a key or splined. 25 mm and 25.4 mm are different sizes, so a pulley for one will not fit the other.
  • Rotation and output speed. Engines with a 2:1 reduction (marked "-L" or "-D") turn the output shaft at about half the engine speed, for example around 1800 rpm on the WEIMA WM190FE-L. Fit one only where the machine had one from the factory.
  • Starting. A recoil starter is fine on small engines. From about 13 HP an electric starter is more convenient, and models with 7A charging (e.g. Loncin H500FD, G420FD/C7) keep the battery topped up.
  • Dimensions and mounting. Compare the bolt pattern and overall size on the product page with your machine's frame.

The simplest approach: photograph the old engine's rating plate, measure the shaft and compare with the product page. Our guide petrol or diesel for a two-wheel tractor explains the trade-offs.

Petrol or diesel

A petrol engine is lighter, cheaper and starts more easily in the cold. It suits machines used seasonally: tillers, mowers, pumps, compactors, generators. A diesel is heavier (the WEIMA WM178F weighs 33 kg, the WM188FBE 57 kg) but delivers more torque and uses less fuel during long hours under load. It is the usual choice for two-wheel tractors that pull a plough or trailer for much of the day.

First start and common mistakes

  • Check the oil level before the first start and top up if needed. Running without oil destroys the engine, and models with a low-oil sensor simply will not start.
  • Do not mix up 25 and 25.4 mm. The pulley or clutch must match the new engine's shaft.
  • If you fit a more powerful engine, check that the machine's gearbox and belt can take the extra torque.
  • Run the first hours without full load and change the oil after running-in, as the manual says.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check that a new engine will fit my machine?
Compare shaft orientation (horizontal or vertical), shaft diameter and type, direction of rotation and mounting hole pattern. All of these are listed on the product page.

What does a 2:1 reduction engine do?
A built-in gear roughly halves the output shaft speed, for example to about 1800 rpm. It only suits machines designed for that kind of engine.

What is 7A charging for?
An engine with a charging coil tops up the battery while it runs. This is useful on machines with an electric starter and lights.

Which engine for a two-wheel tractor?
Light machines usually take 7 HP, heavy ones 13–18 HP petrol or a 9–14 HP diesel. Always follow the power and shaft of the original engine.

What about warranty and delivery?
Engines come with a 24-month warranty. We ship by courier across Poland, free from 999 zł, otherwise 39 zł. Delivery to other EU countries is possible, with cost and time confirmed when you order. You can return goods within 14 days.
