Earth auger accessories: cone splitter kit for the Jansen HBG-1500
This section holds the upgrade kit for the Jansen HBG-1500, which turns the hydraulic earth auger into a cone log splitter. You fit a splitting cone in place of the auger, and the same hydraulic motor drives it. One machine then drills post holes and splits logs for firewood.
Who the kit is for
- Auger required: the kit works only with the Jansen HBG-1500 hydraulic earth auger. The auger itself is not included.
- Carrier machine: the HBG-1500 with the cone mounts on a mini excavator, wheel loader, yard loader or a tractor with a front loader.
- Wood: according to the manufacturer, the cone splits logs up to 50 cm in diameter, depending on wood type and length.

Which earth auger for which job
A manual auger is enough for a few holes. For fences and planting over a larger area, a tractor auger on the three-point hitch driven by the PTO is faster, for example the Jansen TBG-200. A hydraulic auger such as the HBG-1500 runs on an excavator or loader; see excavators and loaders for such machines.
Safe operation: lay the log steadily on the ground, feed the cone in slowly and keep hands away from the rotating cone. Wear gloves and safety glasses, and make sure the carrier operator can see the whole work area.

Will the kit work without the HBG-1500 auger?
No. The cone is driven by the HBG-1500 hydraulic motor, so the kit is an add-on for that auger.
What logs can the cone splitter handle?
The manufacturer states up to 50 cm in diameter. Results depend on wood type, length and moisture. Knotty pieces split more slowly.
How is a cone splitter different from a standard log splitter?

Can the cone tip be replaced?
Yes. The tip is replaceable and the cone is made of hardened steel.
