Grünwelt outboard motors for dinghies and fishing boats
An outboard motor clamps onto the transom of a boat or dinghy and gives you drive where oars are not enough: on a lake, a reservoir or a calm river. This section has seven Grünwelt petrol outboards from 1.5 to 9 HP, from light 8.2 kg units to models with reverse gear and electric start. Every model has an emergency kill switch on the tiller.
How to choose an outboard
- Power and boat size. 1.5–2.5 HP is enough for a small dinghy on calm water. 6–9 HP suits a larger fishing boat with crew and gear. Check the maximum engine power on the boat's capacity plate and do not exceed it.
- Two-stroke or four-stroke. The GW-120FC is a 52 cc two-stroke that runs on a petrol and oil mix. The other models are four-strokes with separate engine oil.
- Reverse gear. The GW-200FCR, GW-225FER and GW-600WK have reverse, which makes it easier to back away from a jetty and manoeuvre in reeds.
- Weight. The lightest GW-120FC and GW-140FC weigh 8.2 kg each and are easy to carry in one hand. The 6–9 HP models weigh 22–29 kg.

Operation
Before your first trip, fill the four-stroke with oil or prepare the two-stroke fuel mix as described in the manual. Always attach the kill switch lanyard to your wrist or life jacket. At the end of the season, drain the fuel or add stabiliser and store the motor in a dry place in the position given in the manual. Other petrol engines are in engines.
Frequently asked questions
Which motor for a two-person dinghy?
On calm water the light GW-140FC (1.5 HP) or GW-120FC (2.5 HP) is enough. Both weigh 8.2 kg.
What is the difference between the GW-225FC and GW-225FER?
Both have 224 cc and 9 HP. The GW-225FER adds neutral, reverse and an electric starter.
What is the shaft length?
