Jansen tractor rotary tillers and trenchers

This section covers Jansen machines for working and digging soil: TBF and UKF-145 tractor rotary tillers driven by the PTO, the GF-600pro self-propelled chain trencher, and attachments for the Jansen MGT-420 and MGT-600E two-wheel tractors: a tiller, ploughs and a ridger. A rotary tiller prepares a field, orchard or vegetable garden for sowing, while a trencher cuts a narrow trench for cables, irrigation or drainage without digging up the whole plot.

How to match a rotary tiller to your tractor

• Tractor power: this comes first. The TBF-125 needs at least 20 HP, the UKF-145 35 HP, the TBF-180 40 HP and the TBF-220 60 HP. An underpowered tractor will struggle with a wide rotor in heavy soil.
• Working width: ideally close to or slightly wider than the tractor's track width, so the tiller covers the tyre marks. 125 cm suits compact and orchard tractors, 180–220 cm suits larger tractors and fields.
• Hitch category: the TBF-125 and UKF-145 fit Cat. I and Cat. II, the TBF-180 and TBF-220 Cat. II only.
• Rotor direction: a standard TBF tiller turns with the direction of travel. The UKF-145 is a reverse tiller with a crumbler roller: stones and plant residue drop onto the grid and fine soil is left on top for sowing.
• Depth: all tractor models work to about 16 cm, set with the side skids.

Like the TBF-125, the TBF-180 and TBF-220 come with a PTO shaft and an oil-bath gear drive. For two-wheel tractors there are also the J09 single-furrow plough (15 kg), the J10 reversible plough (34 kg) and the J08 ridger (15 kg) for potato ridges.

GF-600pro trencher: when it pays off

The GF-600pro cuts a 10 cm wide trench with a chain carrying 27 carbide teeth, and an auger moves the soil to the side. You choose the depth: 20, 40 or 60 cm. The machine is 95 cm wide, so it gets into most gardens and does far less damage to a lawn than heavy equipment. It is a practical choice for garden lighting cables, irrigation pipes and drainage. For wider and deeper digs, go for a mini excavator.

Delivery, assembly and common mistakes

• Jansen machines arrive partly disassembled in a steel frame or wooden crate, and you assemble them yourself (about 1–2 hours for the TBF-125, about 1 hour for the GF-600pro, ideally with two people).
• The gearboxes of the tractor tillers are supplied without oil. Fill them before first use as described in the manual (80W90 gear oil in the upper gearbox).
• The GF-600pro engine needs about 1.5 litres of 10W40 or 15W40 oil before the first start.
• The GF-600pro digging chain is a wear part. Large stones and thick roots can damage it, so check the trench line before you start.
• Do not drop the tiller onto hard ground with the PTO running, and avoid sharp turns with the rotor in the soil.

Frequently asked questions

Which tiller suits a 25 HP tractor?
In this section, the TBF-125 (from 20 HP, 125 cm) fits a 25 HP tractor. The UKF-145 needs at least 35 HP, and the TBF-180 and TBF-220 need more.

How is the UKF-145 different from the TBF?
The UKF-145 rotor turns against the direction of travel and it has a built-in crumbler roller. Stones and plant residue stay below, leaving fine, level soil on top that is ready for sowing.

How deep a trench does the GF-600pro dig?
Up to 60 cm deep and 10 cm wide. Depth can be set to 20, 40 or 60 cm, with an output of up to 60 m per hour.

Do the J04 and J07–J10 attachments fit other two-wheel tractors?
