A differential in a two-wheel tractor lets the wheels turn at different speeds, so a heavy machine is easier to turn at the end of a row. This page collects WEIMA WM1100 petrol two-wheel tractors in the DIFF version, bundles built around them, and the differential itself for models of this family. For the full range of petrol units, see petrol two-wheel tractors.
What a differential does on a two-wheel tractor
Without one, both wheels sit on a single axle, so one of them slips in a turn. On a light machine that is no problem, but when the tractor weighs 95–120 kg, runs 135 cm tines or pulls a transport cart, turning becomes hard work. The DIFF version has a differential with a release, operated by cables and levers on the handlebar.
- Turning at the end of a row – the wheels roll at different speeds, so the machine turns with less effort.
- Less damage to turf and beds – the wheel does not scrub the ground in a turn (a general conclusion from how a differential works).
- Work with a transport cart – longer runs and corners are more comfortable.
Differential models on this page
All have a 4-forward, 2-reverse gearbox with PTO, 4 × (2+1+1) tines, 800–1350 mm working width and 150–300 mm depth.

How to choose a two-wheel tractor with a differential
Engine power
The 7–8 hp models suit a home garden and a small field. For a bigger plot, heavy soil and ploughing, go for 13 or 16 hp. More on choosing an engine in our guide how to choose a two-wheel tractor.
Electric start
The FE versions have an electric starter in addition to the recoil one. With a bigger engine and long breaks between jobs it is a real convenience, especially for snow clearing in winter.
Attachments
The page also includes ready bundles: a plough, hiller and potato digger on the WM1100FE-6 16KM, and an active bundle with a rotary tiller and rotary mower. A bundle costs less than the same equipment bought separately. Other tractors of the brand are in the WEIMA section.
Differential sold separately
The WEIMA differential with a 32 mm axle, cables and levers is also sold on its own, including as a replacement in tractors of the WM1100 family. Check the model and version on the data plate before buying.
Before the first start
WEIMA tractors are supplied without engine or gearbox oil. The gearbox takes about 2.3–2.5 l and the engine 0.6–1.2 l, depending on the model (exact volumes are in the product specification). Do not start the engine until you have added oil.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a differential in a small garden?
Not always. With a light tractor and short rows you can do without. It pays off with a heavier machine, long beds and frequent turning.
Can I add a differential to a tractor that does not have one?
The manufacturer describes the unit as a replacement in WM1100 models; in machines without a factory differential it requires modification. Check the model on the data plate first.
Which model for a plough and hiller?
For heavier work the 13 and 16 hp versions are better. The plough and hiller bundle is built on the WM1100FE-6 16KM.
